Marte Vroom

Nice to meet you!

I'm Marte Vroom (Mar-teh Frome), a first-generation student born and raised in the Netherlands (a tiny country in Europe, below sea-level). Trained as an economic geographer, I'm doing a PhD in Political Science* now, exploring the dynamics of green innovation in regions and public policies at the University of Toronto. My supervisor is Professor Dan Breznitz.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Geography and Spatial Planning from Utrecht University in 2021. In 2022, I received the Fulbright Foreign Student Fund, flying me all the way to UCLA. There, under the supervision of Professor David Rigby, I dived into the geography of green innovation in the US. In 2023, I added a Research Master of Science in Urban and Economic Geography to my academic repertoire (graduated cum laude).

Aside from being trained as an economic geographer, I'm very passionate about the use of quantitative methods. I mostly use R, but I can also work with SQL and a bit with Python.

* Now, if academia and I were ever to break up, there's always my plan B. Drum roll, please... I have a not-so-secret passion for metal music, and let's face it, becoming a drummer in a metal band sounds like the perfect backup plan!
